Letter
As Director of Marketing for the 2022–2023 Freshman Leadership Council, I wrote a letter to welcome, inspire, and connect with a cohort of 50 freshmen, helping set the tone for their first year.
Dear Council Member,
This letter in your hands, written moments after we closed the application that brought you here today, is only a snapshot in time. I hope its message of optimism radiates beyond this moment and beyond the words on the page.
My name is Paige Mungall, your Director of Marketing, and it is an absolute dream to be here alongside you in FLC this year. To know FLC is to love FLC, and I’m so lucky I get to watch you blaze your trail in this organization full of wonderful possibility.
There was a moment during my freshman year when it hit me how fulfilled I am here at UF, and it happened in a Target on November 1st. The moment was filled with such simplicity: the Target employees were shelving the Christmas décor, my roommates and I were on the hunt for a Christmas tree, and Harry Styles was playing over the speakers. Everything felt right. To this day, I consider November 1st to be the best day of my freshman year, even though it was objectively nothing special. It made me realize that I was, and still am, exactly where I’m meant to be in all parts of my life.
In this moment, you are exactly where you are meant to be. I can’t wait for you to have your own November 1st moment.
The most important thing freshman year taught me is that growth, success, and happiness look different from person to person. It’s a lesson I’m still actively trying to learn, but I encourage you to keep it in mind as you navigate your time here at UF. Appreciate the small moments, or else the big ones will lose meaning. Be authentically yourself, and never lose track of who you are for the sake of success. Do what truly fills your heart with joy, not what the world pressures you to do. You are so incredibly worthy exactly as you are.
I can’t wait to get to know all the worlds you hold inside you and uplift you in all that you do. The possibilities of you and me, you and anybody else in this room, and you and this organization are endless.
With love and light,
Paige Mungall
